What causes abnormal veins? There are two types of abnormal veins which are visible - spider veins and varicose veins. The cause of spider veins is not completely known. They seem to run in families and affect women more than men. Varicose veins, which are larger, mainly occur from a genetic susceptibility. Patients can have associated pain from their abnormal veins that varies from dull and throbbing to a burning sensation.
Will treated veins recur? Spider veins may recur. It may seem that a previously injected vessel has recurred when, in fact, a new spider vein has appeared in the same area.

Laser Vein Therapy
How does laser vein therapy differ from sclerotherapy injections? Instead of injecting a solution into the abnormal veins that causes the veins to close, laser vein therapy targets the hemoglobin pigment of the vessels, heating up the vessel and causing it to close and thereby redirecting blood flow to normal vessels. As with sclerotherapy, it takes a few months to see the end result from the treatment and may take several sessions to obtain the end results.
How do I know whether sclerotherapy or laser vein therapy is better for me? This will be determined during your private and confidential consultation.
