Leg Vein Sclerotherapy
What is Sclerotherapy? Sclerotherapy is a micro-injection procedure that needs no pain medication or surgery.
Abnormal veins are treated by injecting a solution called a sclerosant. This seals the vein off from the rest of the vein network in your leg, allowing the body to naturally redirect the blood flow to healthy veins. A typical treatment may last for 15 to 30 minutes and will consist of multiple microinjections.
What kind of improvement can I expect from Sclerotherapy? Following your treatment with sclerotherapy, the abnormal veins can disappear or become much smaller. There is individual response to this treatment process and it may require 1 to 3 sessions to see improvement. In general, there is about an 80-90% chance for a greatly improved appearance. It takes several weeks to see the full effect of the sclerotherapy. Fading will gradually over months.
Can Sclerotherapy be used on all skin types? Yes, all skin types and skin colors respond well to sclerotherapy.
Laser Vein Therapy
How does laser vein therapy differ from sclerotherapy injections? Instead of injecting a solution into the abnormal veins that causes the veins to close, laser vein therapy targets the hemoglobin pigment of the vessels, heating up the vessel and causing it to close and thereby redirecting blood flow to normal vessels. As with sclerotherapy, it takes a few months to see the end result from the treatment and may take several sessions to obtain the end results.
How do I know whether sclerotherapy or laser vein therapy is better for me? This will be determined during your private and confidential consultation. You may even elect to combine sclerotherapy with laser vein therapy for the treatment of unsightly veins.
